Au Revior, folks! I won't be posting for the next couple of days because John and I are taking a much needed long weekend vacation to Asheville with Nikki, Joe, Beth and Scott. Thank goodness Josh does NOT have strep throat as we were fearing. He seems to just have a little virus that should clear up on its own within the next day or so. His fever is already down some today and he seems to be in much better spirits. Thankfully, they have a wonderful Granny and a wonderful "Ca" to take care of them while Mommy and Daddy are gone.

Freedom
My dad has started a blog. Go there this morning to read his first entry. Good stuff.
I am angry this morning, though, after reading his entry. Angry and inspired. In this country, we have the freedom of choice. We are free to choose where to live, what God to worship, and yes, my friends, YES we are FREE TO CHOOSE whom we want to VOTE FOR!!! And, yes, every person in this country is entitled to their own opinions and to voice those opinions. That is the beauty of this country. We are not persecuted for choosing to support one particular politician over another. But we are NOT FREE to go into a stranger's yard and deface their property! No matter how much we may HATE their opinions, their politics or their freaking yard signs!!!! And I would like to believe that we are CIVILIZED enough to allow people their own opinions without berating them, questioning them, hounding them, etc. etc. etc. I have Republican friends, Republican family, Republican acquaintances, Republican grocery store clerks! I probably even have a Republican cat, for crying out loud! But I am a DEMOCRAT. Do I care that so many around me are Republicans? No. I respect their freedom and their right as an American to have their own political philosophies, to support the candidate of their choice and to be proud of that decision. I applaud them for even being involved in the democratic process when so many belong to the party of APATHY. I understand that, as a Democrat and an Obama supporter, I am in the minority in our lovely state, but what I don't understand is how so many around me cannot respect my opinions, my decisions, and my FREEDOM TO CHOOSE for myself. And I cannot even fathom what goes through the mind of the person who went into my father's yard under the shadowy cloak of darkness and twice tampered with his OBAMA '08 sign. What a pitiful person, who has no understanding of what makes his or her country so great. Oh, it's going to be a long four months....but I will buy 50 Obama signs if I have to. I will not back down in the face of prejudice and ignorance. I will hold my head high.

To go or not to go...that is the question!
So, I bought the tickets. And then I felt bad for spending SOOoooooo much money on a ticket to see her Madgesty! So, I considered selling them. I even told John I would sell them...and then I saw the set list. IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has to be the best set list I have ever seen for a Madonna show. What am I going to do???? And then tonight, I'm driving to Target, listening to Madonna, and I start picturing the concert...Becca and I in our AWESOME, FABULOUS seats, Madge singing the heck out of "Dress You Up" for pete's sake (!), and DING DANG, Y'ALL!!!! I gots to go!!! What's a girl to do, now, seriously?

When thunderstorms strike...
These are the faces of fear. When the sound of thunder rumbles through the sky and glimpses of lightning are seen through half-closed blinds. When rain pounds on roofs and lights flicker, plunging us into moments of darkness. This is when fear is etched on the faces of men and their hearts scream out...forget The Sopranos, dude! Don't you think we deserve an EMMY for this performance?!?!?

Winning Cat Name!!!
While the winning cat name in the poll is most definitely "Princess Leah Lucky Buttons," my parents have settled on Coco. I must say, I am a little disappointed. I campaigned very hard for Princess Leah Lucky Buttons. I love the name so much that I am tempted to use it myself, but somehow, I think it is more befitting a cat than a dog. So, now I will resign myself to contemplating future dog names. Josh is all about naming the dog "Scoob," but John isn't too keen on that name. Anyway, maybe someday I will buy a Scottish Fold kitten and name it PLLB!!!! Here's some cute pics of the boys to start your day!

Some T-Ball Pics
Josh summed up T-Ball in this statement, "I like T-Ball, Mommy, but I liked Soccer better. There's a lot of standing in T-Ball, and you just stand there and you get really hot and sweaty." Thus, sometimes you see Josh on the field using his glove as a second hat! He has been getting better and better, though, and last week he actually caught two balls and threw them to first. His batting has improved too. His father and uncle, though, are TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL! Dig that picture of them hanging on the fence? I sure do!

Sarcasm and Smart Choices
I just wanted to take a moment to point out that my last post was supposed to be sarcastic. I certainly hold no grudges against Mr. Morgan Spurlock. Rather, I found his documentary, Super Size Me, to be thought-provoking, informative and hard-hitting. So take THAT, Mr. John Daniel!!!!
I do urge all of you, though, to check www.dietfacts.com before heading out to your favorite restaurant. I checked before going to McAlister's Deli this weekend and was SHOCKED to find that most menu choices, while seeming to be healthy options, were loaded with fat and calories. Thanks to this website, I was able to make a wiser, more nutritious choice when dining out.

McDonald’s fries switched to trans-fat-free oil
After concerns about changing taste of trademark fries, chain makes swap
McDonald’s said Thursday its french fries are now trans-fat-free in all its restaurants in the United States and Canada, catching it up with its fast-food rivals in that category.
CEO Jim Skinner made it official at its annual shareholders meeting at McDonald’s Corp. headquarters in Oak Brook, Ill.
McDonald’s has lagged other restaurant operators in switching over to a zero-trans-fat cooking oil out of worries it would compromise the taste of its trademark fries. It has been under increasing pressure from consumer advocates and some public officials to make the change, but it did so quietly.
“For a few months now, customers in our U.S. restaurants have been enjoying our fried food items, including french fries, hash browns, chicken and filet of fish, as well as our biscuits, with zero grams of trans fat per labeled serving,” Skinner said.
He said McDonald’s is on schedule to convert to the new oil by year’s end for its remaining baked items, pies and cookies.
“While we don’t plan to advertise these changes, we wanted you to be the first to know that we have followed through on our commitment while keeping the same great taste that our customers expect from McDonald’s,” Skinner said.
The $23 billion company was especially cautious in making the switch after reneging within months on a September 2002 pledge to introduce a new oil, citing the taste concerns.
McDonald’s has nearly 14,000 restaurants in the United States.
The company said it also has upheld its commitment to significantly reduce the amount of trans fat in its restaurants around the world, reducing it to less than 0.5 grams per serving in Europe, Latin America and its Asia Pacific-Middle East-Africa division. The four exceptions are Colombia, Japan, Ukraine and Venezuela, where McDonald’s is still working toward its reduction goals.
